Good Bye

Just before the snow
By the river Jehlum
She bade me-the
Last Goodbye.
Forever meant promises
Were frozen in time.
The letters of her name-too
froze on my lips-as
I tried to call her back
Walking past the ghats
as she went-away from me.
Her footsteps blurring
With tears in my eyes swelling
Standing there-near
the broken marble palace
of my dreams
Hope extinguished-faded like smoke…

Though often
I’ve heard a name
Just like hers’
But for decades
She has sent no word.
Standing here-still
at the ghat of the only world
I hold back my tears
In this chaotic rain
in every passer by
I see her-telling me
Good-Bye and Good-Bye
